O was fishing in the lower Ashuelot today where I caught smallmouth before, and fish were eating bugs off the surface, one in front of me was big and green and I assumed it was a bass.
After a while fishing with no luck using worms alone I put a worm on a spinner leader and caught my very first walleye.

went out today again. my goal is to catch every fish that mass has to offer (according to fishes of mass book) in mass. today i added redbreast sunfish....wow are they pretty. the pic doesnt do it justice. i also posted a pic of the habitat as well as the nests they had all over. this place was loaded with what i believe are common shiners.

i caught him on rod and reel.
i explored some more today and found a part of a damned off non flowing part of a river....HUGE snapping turtle. some painted turtles...beautiful redbreast sunfish, golden shiners, common shiners and some other huge fish...im guessing fallfish. they look like trout in the water but the water is rather dirty...and rusty. ill let you know what they are when i hook one. the turtles came right up to the edge of the water to visit me. i had bread that i was using for bait and i fed the turtles. the smack of his jaws was very loud. i cant wait to bring my 3 year old over there so he can see them

geez justin. I had hooked on LARGER than that one before. I fought him all the way up to the bank and as soon as i got him to the bank quicker than i could pull a camera out he snapped the line and took off. his head had to be twice the size of my fist.

picture cant do it justice...it was like 3-4 feet, his head was massive.

A quick comparison. Notice how much paler your redbreast from mass is compared to the ones we caught in new hampshire.

I wonder if they are very variable in coloration, or if one is just more stressed and faded due to being caught.

I actually thought the opposite. The one in mass was a lot more colorful. And the teal was very deep.A quick comparison. Notice how much paler your redbreast from mass is compared to the ones we caught in new hampshire.

Both are equally pale and beautiful at the same time!!
