ah, ok. i don't want to go for those, then. i'll just wait and see what's available when i actually get my fish. maybe i'll get some of the lined topminnows instead. if there appears to be too much nipping going on, i can always move the topminnows into my mom's pond, or into another one of my tanks. the focus of this set-up is gonna be the sunfish, so i wouldn't mind too much if they ended up being the only inhabitants of the tank. thanks for the tip.Re: bluefin killies, they're not really top-dwelling fish the way Fundulus are. They tend to stay mid-water, more like shiners than topminnows.

Blackstripe and blackspotted topminnows would be good topwater tankmates, I think. They're not appropriate for a biotope (they're Gulf slope species, Enneacanthus are Atlantic slope) but they have similar habitat needs and are in my experience very peaceful.
