Has anyone ever kept Rainbow Smelt before? I think I might be getting some in some nets I'll be working with in Detroit.
When my rainbow darters died, they smelt. Is that what you mean?

i had two live ones from the powerplant. They died in the bucket on the way home...
Salt, salt, and more salt. and lots of air. We had a retired biologist tell use stories of transporting skipjack in pretty much brackish water. Skipjack pretty much die if you look at them.

Funny, I looked at Matt and he is not dead. (I know it's corny, but somebody had to say it.)Skipjack pretty much die if you look at them.

Got a fresh batch of them. I'm going to salt them up something proper!
We have been able to transport and keep some of the "sensitive species" by salting the transport bucket and the aquarium with 1 tbsp / 5 gallons. You can probably go more if you aren't keeping any catfish species in the same tank.
We were told warpaint shiners are sensitive and we kept them over a couple of nights with water changes and salt.

I meant to say that I'm trying Brook Silversides, not Smelt this time. I'm in the second night of acclimation for them.
