I have 1 yellow perch in a 75 gallon with 3 warmouths and a koi. There is tons of cover in the tank, but the perch pretty much just hides all day and rarely comes out. I was wondering if perch are a school fish, and if 1 more perch in the tank would make him more comfortable

perch do like to school, and they also like to hide if they arent the biggest fish around (since they are commonly preyed upon by bass, walleye, pike, etc.) if you get another one or two, Id think it would become a bit more adventurous since it would have buddies around him to help look out for predators while they roam around.

Yeah, panfisherteen is right. Yellow perch, especially smaller ones, school in deep waters in great numbers, sometimes into the hundreds. They move into the shallows to feed at night. I think definitely that if you got more of them it would make him a lot more comfortable. They are very skittish fish in general though, so, I'm not positive that this will help. Good luck though! :) Let me know what happens.

he has started to come out and swim a little and i finally saw him eat today for the first time. I think he had been eating but i had never seen him do it. I think im gonna go try and get a couple more, but he is the biggest in the tank

What kind of habitat are you getting them from (ie. lake, stream river) and how are you collecting them? (net, rod)
