Hello all, I just have a couple questions. How many green sunfish can I keep in a 75g and what other fish could I keep with them? Thank you.

I would say 6-8 greens or a combination of similar sized sunfish such as spotted, redspotted, pumpkinseed, warmouth, longears, or redbreast sunfish.
It helps to have lots of hiding places will help keep aggression down. Also having more fish in the tank will cut down on aggression as well instead of 2-3 sunfish.

I currently have 8 in a 75 gallon tank and at the moment they are between 3 and 4 inches long and were doing alright together before they decided to start breeding. Now I may have to remove the females as they are getting harassed quite a bit. I agree that 6-8 are ok in a 75 gallon but be prepared to remove some if they start to breed :cool2:

The easy answer, is anything bigger than they are that won't fit in their mouth. Big shiners like striped, or creek chubs, are tough enough to handle green sunfish.

Madtom catfish also can make good tank mates for just about any sunfish species. The species of madtom can be chosen to fit the species of sunfish. Larger madtoms such as slender, margined or stonecats work well with greens. Also as was already mentioned large minnow species and I would add any Nocomis chub sp. would be good tankmates for greens. To prevent the problems associated with the sunfish becoming more territorial while breeding you need to have so much cover in the tank that all the fish can easily hide at the same time in different locations if they choose to do so. You can also prevent them from breeding by keeping the temperature at 70 or below if this is practical for you, maybe keeping the tank in your basement.
