Last night the otocinclue algea eater in my new darter tank died. I was tired (and my dareters are still a bit skittish on being moved) so i decided to net it out in the morning. This morning it was gone! The only other fish with it are darters (tesselates, greensides, and log perch) and a little orange guppy like fish that came with my feeder guppies. Is it possible the darters ate it while i slept?

I've had darters scavange on a dead banded killifish in one of my tanks before so it's definitely possible. Are there places the dead fish could have been swept into where you wouldn't see it? Under rocks, behind plants, etc...? That might also be a possibility.

I have a small native tank in my office with just a few darters in it. I don't know who the culprit was, but I had a really small Dusky and Banded darter in it and one morning I came in and one of the other darters had bitten the heads off of both.

Most fish are pretty opportunistic, especially in a tank setting. I would not be surprised if they did. There aren't a bunch of inverts to keep them busy, so yeah, a carcass will do.
