How big do they get, what size of tank, what are they like as tank fish, any possible tankmates/pondmates and food preferences?

walleye can reach lengths longer than 30", sauger are slightly smaller and can reach lengths around 24", and saugeye are a hybrid between them that probably reach a length inbetween those. They'll be nocturnal most likely in nature. You would need a huge aquarium to handle these guys, and they like live food (whether it be minnows or leeches).

They are a large darter that grows rapidly, therefore yes, larger tank > 55-gal. They are prone to panic and ram tank walls when panicked which can result in damaged mouth and eyes. Well fed minnows 1/3 to 1/2 the saugers length kept in a school can serve as food and serve as dither fish to reduce panick attacks. Keep lights subdued but never totally dark. With time you should be able to get them to consume pellets. Easiest if you can get them to take minnows from your hands. Sauger not most tolerant to poor water quality and keep temperature from geting higher than 75 F.

Are saugers, walleyes and saugeyes good pond fish, and would they eat emerald shiners, fathead minnows, pellets, and nightcrawlers? Also, they're darters? WHHHAAAATTTT?
