What fish is this

This fish was caught in the Walbash River close to Lafeyette, Indiana. (can't spell it, by Purdue)

We were useing whole nightcrawlers for bait, and it was about 9" long.DSC01492.JPG

it's fat bodied, big scaled, and reflects blue like a common shiner, but 9 inches sounds a bit big for one (I thought i read they max out at 8 inches). The head shape compared to the body seems a bit odd so I am not quite sure what it is.

I was thinking it was a silver chub

Mike, what made you wonder if it was not a silver chub? It's certainly a nice one. btw, that caudal fin pigmentation (dark streak on bottom lobe with a pale edge) is present in most big-river Macrhybopsis...

I was not sure, I only recently became interested in fish that are not saught by anglers.

I have never seen one so full-bodied... nice fish!!
