I looked these up once but forgot what they are. But they look nice.

that fish does look nice... only if they had them in California i wouldn't mind keeping some

I thinks its a Striped Shiner Luxilus chrysocephalus. male in full breeding color.

How closely related is the striped to the common? with the exception of the pink coloring on the sides that looks almost exactly like my big common.

Nice fish! The stripeds down here aren't in breeding color any more.

FirstChaos- They are very closely related. I believe at one point striped shiners were considered a subspecies of common.
