advice one catching shiners

can anyone have any advice how to catch shiners? like what hook size, and what types of bait and how your fish for them also

here is my experience on catching shiners.

FISHING: The smaller the hook the better (salmon egg hooks on leaders work good), however the downside is the smaller the hook the more likely it is to be swallowed. Using hooks I have caught fallfish, creek chub, common shiner, and golden shiner.

KICK/DIP NETTING: Kick netting gets me blacknose dace and longnose dace, dippnetting is very hit or miss and rarely gets me anything with any regularity.

SEINING: Gets you everything but i do it very very rarely as someone else is needed for it.

As for the question of bait, i find good old worms work best for shiners, and just about everything else. If fish turn up worms (and I have seen it) they're either overfished or in a very odd mood indeed.

ive seen people on youtube making minnow traps with plastic bottles and i was wondering if anyone ever used them those before and if they ever worked for you
