We have been collecting for our 90 gal. tank for the last two weeks. My husband used to do this as a kid, but I'm new to the hobby. I love it!

We have caught:
Northern Longear Sunfish
Grass Pickerel
Mottled Sculpin
Blacknose Dace and/or Creek Chub
Rainbow Darters
Blackside Darters
Johnny Darters
Brook Sticklebacks
Pirate Perch
Mudminnows

We are in search of Madtoms now. What type of habitat have you found them in? Any suggestions how to catch them? We have a seine net and dip nets.

Thanks!

I've caught madtoms in minnowtraps, and by dredging detritus with a sturdy, wider mesh dipnet (redundant from an article in The Current, eh? It works though!). I'd look for slower moving to non-moving, heavily weeded drainages.

Good luck!

I predict the pickerel is going to win this one.

I had a bit of a laugh there.

I have always had success with a minnow trap for madtoms.
