Cabelas has some "EZ" to throw casting nets. I have not tried them and all 3/8".

Bass Pro Shop has them on sale right now. The smallest one is a 3.5' radius /
3/8" mesh. I am looking something smaller, like maybe with a 3’ Radius and with ¼” mesh and made out of nylon. Is there someone on the board that makes them, and that won't coast an Arm and Leg.

With a good supply of monofilament and a great deal of time, YOU can be the first one on your block to make a 1/4", 3' cast net! Other wise you can't buy one. Greg *(Netmaker) would probably be happy to make you one, but his skills don't come cheap.

here in fl you can get 4 ft nets with 3/8 in mesh at walmart, saltwater fishermen love them for bait, they are mono so they might tear up some fish however, i know natural nets are available, from custom builders,

Cast nets with a 1 lb. per radius foot are best for any fish gathering. I have to agree that they are not real clean on grassy bottoms. You will tear up a lot of grass bed with one of these.
Plus, when you close the brail lines and 'bag' the fish, those double knotted monofilament twines will tear up delicate species .

*Throw it over some coon tail grass and you'll need a winch truck to retireve it.*

I have never seen a cast net with smaller mesh than 3/8" str. unless it was hand made .

You could make one with raschel 3mm but it would take a better man than I to throw the thing more than a few times.
Of course IM has that M'sippi style thing going and could probably handle it.

hey netmaker could you make a 4ft dia natural fiber 1/4 in. castnet, and how much would it sell for?

Just wondering if anyone had any recommendations as far as cast nets? Ive never used one, but they seem like they would work great. Toss it in a weedy area and pull it up. Seems like it would cover a large area and be pretty easy to catch alot of stuff. Any input would help. Thanks

Occasionally I will use a dip net, but most of the time I use a cast net. Get the smallest radius one you can, it will give you more control and more access to tight places. Fish smaller than adult sunfish are often caught in cast nets, minnows like red shiners, etc., no problem. Cast nets work great for ponds, but not moving water like creeks. Creeks also tend to get lots of branches in them, which can snag and tear up a cast net, or even get it stuck so it is impossible to retrieve.

I have a much better technique than that girl (I don't look as good in short shorts or a bikini top though). Part of it is she uses too big a net. Smaller nets work better IMHO.
