Don't know! :) Nice natural tank deco! Very authentic!

Very nice Mark!

Your fish is Etheostoma oriental (Eastrim Darter) a recent split from the Etheostoma simoterum complex. The photo Lance posted is the Etheostoma simoterum. It has been broken up into multiple species including E. atripinne, E. occidentale, E. orientale, E. planasaxatile, E. tennesseense, but still includes the type species E. simoterum.

Is there a document covering the eastrim split I can get get my hands on?

To add to this a bit, here's one I got from the same location. This is the male, I also found what looks like a female that was pretty much black and white. Pardon the brown blob in the middle of the body, that's algae on the tank glass.

In my tank, these darters are anything but shy. Very gregarious. The female likes to hover a lot.

Interesting where we found these - only in crevasses with heavy current flowing through them.
