Decided to do some collecting today in a little creek running into Keuka Lake. The creek was small enough that I could almost reach the opposite shore with my net and didn't even need waders. My method consisted of dragging the net through the leaf litter and the bank undercuts and then sifting through it. In total I came up with seven fish species and several invertebrates. Not bad for about an hour or two's worth of solo collecting. Had I had a partner with a seine I'm sure I would have gotten more. This was my first trip in over a year and it was great to get out there.

Green Sunfish (Lepomis cyanellus). I caught three of this species. I was a bit surprised as this species is not really abundant in this part of NY. This is only the second place I've found them.

Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides). Caught only one of these.

Tessellated Darter (Etheostoma olmstedi). Caught two of these.

Golden Shiner (Notemigonus crysoleucas). Just one of these.

Blacknose Dace (Rhinichthys atratus). Just one of these.

Banded Killifish (Fundulus diaphanus). Got about six of these.

Tadpole Madtom (Noturus gyrinus). The most unexpected catch of the day, I rarely come across these. This guy ended up being the only fish I took home out of the bunch.

Some of the crustaceans I turned up.

Waterlouse (Asellus aquaticus).
