What is a good food for an adult fantail darter besides live earthworms?
Edit: I have one adult in a 10 gallon w/ a Whisper in tank filter providing filtration and current. I had a powerhead in their originally when I had 2 mottled sculpins in the tank but removed it.
Thanks

you should be able to feed it frozen blood worms without a problem and once it fiigures out that when you come to the tank that means food you can probably switch it to some kind of prepared food.

I've been using freeze dried bloodworms and freeze dried krill pacifica from Avid Aquatics for my darters. (The latter is sold by my LFS as freeze dried plankton.) Some come to the top when they see me coming. Most, however, come to the top when I raise the lid on the hood. They are smart enough to know that's when the food comes in.
I do recommend, if you're going to be using freeze dried from any source, that you sift it through a small kitchen strainer before feeding. There tends to be dust in this stuff (it breaks down in shipping and handling) which can foul your filter, requiring more frequent filter cleanings.

Gambusia,
Our adult Fantails eat frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, and the occasional live blackworm. You can view and print a full care sheet for Fantail Darters from our site at http://www.btdarters...tail_darter.pdf.

In a pinch most darters will also take dried tubiflex worms, not as well as frozen blood worms, but cheap and readily availible. Thanks

UPDATE:
I've been feeding it live crickets with great results.
I tried the frozen bloodworms with no luck so it's basically crickets and pieces of earthworms

I've always fed darters frozen mosquito larva. Seems to work well gets caught in the current and looks alive.
