Well a little update on my pickerel that matt gave to me a few months back. He is doing really good and has gotten considerably larger! He is a good 7" now. I would bet that he has put on 2" since I got him...not really sure what month I got him in. I will have to look into that one :-k . But my first step with him was to get him onto frozen shrimp which I did with the help of duckman(thank you)! Well this time I decided to go all out and try and get him onto pellets. I got him to take one pellet about a month ago but he chewed on it for a while then spit it out. Well I decided I was going to give it a real go this time and I starved him for about a week. I could tell he was really hungry. He shot to the front of the tank and started doing his hungry dance everytime I came near. So I took some pellets and soaked them for about 5 min. To get his attention I would splash the top of the water a bit with my fingers and as soon as he would look I dropped one in and BOOM it was gone. He chewed on it for a while and then swallowed. Then I followed procedure many times and now he has a full belly! I am very excited and now I can get him growing really fast! The only downfall to this is that if they stop moving he loses complete interest but that only happens if they get stuck to the side of the tank. Also one other thing is that I have to drop them in one pellet at a time and make sure he eats that one before I give more. I will get some pictures later and post them up along with a few others. Sorry for rambling but I was just a bit excited.

Good news Chad, you should be excited. Moving a fish like that to dry food is quite rewarding. Just remember to get a replacement pickerel before this guy kicks the bucket (some time down the road). The current pickerel will train the new fish quickly to accept dry food.

Try that method. You can do it! And I deffinatly plan on getting another pickerel or two in the near future! Probably this spring if things go right. 8-)
