I have the address of a park that has some clam shrimp (limnadiidae) living in a number of large rock pools, and I'm going to go get a few samples of the mud so I can try to hatch the clam shrimp. Has anyone ever kept them? From what I'm reading, they're similar in care to fairy shrimp; small aquarium is fine, make sure there's plenty of mulm and detritus for the babies to feed on, give them spirulina algae and yeast dissolved in water that they can filter-feed on. I'm thinking a gallon tank or so should be adequate.

In particular, are they ghost-shrimp-proof? I'd like to put them in a 5g ghost shrimp tank that's already established, but if the ghost shrimp would eat them, I'll put them elsewhere. Not sure if their shell protects them enough from shrimp. I know triops can't eat them.

Yes I think ghost shrimp would probably eat the baby clam shrimp, and might eat larger ones during molting.  Use a dedicated tank.

Looks like I have at least one whisker shrimp! Definitely a dedicated tank. Or possibly just a fishbowl with a wide enough opening for plenty of oxygen exchange at the surface. I think I'll try this first batch without any kind of filter- triops and fairy shrimp do just fine in that sort of setup, and I know clam shrimp can be found in muddy puddles without too much aeration. If they don't do so well, I'll add an airstone on a gentle flow.
