I was wondering
how many people have every been to a site where Pteronotropis welaka ( Bluenose Shiner )were actually spawning?
I haven't.
I'd like to talk to those who have.

Wow, well, I can give a few of these a shot.
Flow rate - moderate? But since the spawning site is in a pool below an outflow, not so much.
Substrate is sandy or muddy. In the nests the sand is swept away to reveal pebbles underneath.
Local sunfish species = megalotis - don't recall what else.
Size of school - maybe 20-30 welakas
Timing: They dart into the sunfish nest while the sunny is chasing something else. So pretty much while the sunny eggs are still maturing.
Plants: heavy emergent vegetation UPSTREAM of the spawning site, maybe 10-20 meters upstream? This is where the juveniles are collected. This may vary according to location.
Temp: Water runs almost constant temp year round (sorry, no data).
Other fish nearby: Typically cherryfin shiners. gulf darters, maybe flagfins (depends on location).
You really should talk to Charles Knight about this.
