I am down to 5 lowland shiners so far. The remaining 5 looked healthy, but last night I noticed that 2 have bumps poking out of their bodies. One has a bump just above and behind the anal fin that looks like something is going to burst right out of it. The first one to die had a large bump under it's chin. When I found it dead it looked as though the bump had burst open.
The other 3 remaining healthy (so far) shiners are now avoiding the 2 with bumps on them.
Any ideas what this might be?
I have medicated the tank for parasites.
They are in the same tank as my prized rainbow, orange throat, illinois, and savannah darters, and orangespot sunfish, so I am a bit nervous. One of these days I will learn to use a quarantine tank!
Thanks,
Lowland Shiners

I request a picture and necroscopy of the dead one.

I think this is a close description of what it might be.
"This involves the egg pouches of copepods, e.g. Lernaea. The anterior portion of the parasite is burrowed deeper into the skin"
Anyway the dead ones are long gone. More may die though, hopefully not!
