For aquarium care information, yes, Goldstein's American Aquarium Fishes is a good one. For more natural history, habitat, ecology, and identification info, then get one (or several) of the various state "Fishes of xxx" books such as Boschung & Mayden's Fishes of Alabama, Etnier & Starnes' Fishes of Tennessee, or Rohde's Fishes of South Carolina. Jenkins' Fishes of Virginia is also excellent but there's no Elassoma in that state.
