I was reading up on the bluenose shiner (Pteronotropis welaka). In the abstract from this article, My link , it suggests that after the breeding season, the adults die off. Is this so? What would then be the life expectancy in captivity? Does anyone here keep them & if so can you post pics & description of your set up/water parameters..ect.

Please use the forum search tool (just type welaka) and read up... there is a lot of information here... this is one of the more famous/infamous/difficult/exciting/controversial topics out there... I suggest that you get the full background before diving in.I was reading up on the bluenose shiner (Pteronotropis welaka). You can also contact Charles Knight directly at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science - the website has his contact info.
For hobbyist info, Philip Kukulski has successfully worked with this species and I would suggest touching base with him.
This is a Species of Special Concern in much of its range.
