redspotted sunfish, Lepomis miniatus... not only does it have, well, red spots, but I think I can see a hint the bright light blue semi circle under the eye... this is a characteristic that I believe is unique to spotted and redspotted... that one is rather dark, but not totally off from others that I have seen pictures of.

Some books (Peterson for example) will list them as a subspecies Lepomis punctatus miniatus.

Yep looks like a nice redspotted sunfish. We see some really dark ones sometimes. They can look almost purple.
