Those dead bivalves are Asian Corbicula clams. Muskrats and other animals eat a lot in winter when other foods are scarce, and they are rather short-lived anyway, so finding tons of dead Corbicula shells doesnt always mean there's been a recent water quality problem. Sorry you struck out -- that can happen sometimes. I agree with others above, fish are adept at hiding when something big is walking in their creek. Did you get into the rocky part of Town Fork Cr where its 30+ ft wide?

No we didn't but it's certainly worth a second trip. There was a goat farm that discouraged us from exploring further north. We didn't want to park in their driveway and it was difficult to go on foot further upstream than we did (steep slope, deep water). Maybe next time you can come along and show us how to get there.Did you get into the rocky part of Town Fork Cr where its 30+ ft wide?
