NO fish collected today, but blue crabs are cool too. I think we got about 30 in the lake and bayou I am doing my research in. The salinity was less than 0.7 ppt at all sites. Female blue crab first.

Just got done processing fish from tonight gillnetting trip, so I thought I would post a few pics of what I found dead in the showtank at school tonight. I did not collect this, but it was collected in a local bayou.

Thanks, I have not seen any snook here. I think it is too far north for them.

Did a little collecting today. The target was fw prawns. I also caught langear sunfish, bantam sunfish, and red spatted sunfish. I was angered and saddened to see a big longnose gar left on the bank to rot by ignorant fishermen. The net handle next to the gar is 60 inches.

Is this a hobby or do you get paid for this kind of stuff? Do you keep them for personal collections?

A little of both, and I keep what I have room for. All of my tanks are pretty full right now, but I always want to know what is in the bayous. Many days I just go to see what I can catch and just keep pictures. Sometimes people at school tell me what fish they want and I will go collect them. Right now I am collecting any fish that would be considered food size for spotted gar, for a gar diet study. The fish will be used to ID partially digested fish.

That's a nice looking stream. I've collected brindled madtom in that general vicinity, so your ID is probably spot on.

No E. swaini? That's odd.

No swaini yesterday, we did two kick sets and had all the darters and chubs we couls handle. I caught on gulf darter today and a ton ( 10+ ) shadow bass.
