Yep, they were in the same spot as the pickerel, they are fun on the ultra light. Its one of the spots I showed you on the map. I have collected there many time and I never found their hiding place until Sunday. For some reason I decided to go into the culvert that goes under the road, and there they were.

Went back out today looking for some more rainwater killies. Had to put a hook in the water.
Saw a big bowfin about 6 inches from the bank. Caught the madtom after dark. I found it in the net via the spine under the fingernail technique, I do not recommend it.

Is he dead (and sorry!)?

BTW, that shadow bass is eating me out of house and home. 60 goldfish in 3 days! The little one gets his share too.

You can't convert it to non-live food?

Well, now that you mention it, that notion never ocurred to me. Maybe Hikari pellets?

Hikari sinking/floating carnivore pellets
those "soft" pellets mentioned in another post
frozen market shrimp
FD krill

never kept shadow bass but most other sunfish will take these with some coercion

Small ones seem to take to frozen foods then pellets quickly, anything over 3-4 inches takes some time.

That jewfish must have been a baby. I remember seeing a documentary where a jewfish bigger than a man sucked a snorkeler's arm in and held him down for several minutes. It was somewhere in the Bahamas, I think. Eventually, other divers were able to distract the fish and cause him to release the diver's arm. Very scary, except the diver himself was narrating, so I knew it had to have a good outcome while I was watching.

It sure is pretty. Knowing how big they get, I assume you didn't keep it
