Thanks all  I couldnt believe how much he/she had grown. (how do you sex them??) Much deeper in the body now and longer than i estimated. I would say about 7 - 8" in length. Looked so much smaller in the pond, but i suppose im so used to seeing my huge Golden Orfe and some good sized (but still young) Koi swimming around, the p/seed would look quite small
I actually sat by the pond for a while, and rather than just watch and enjoy the fish, i thought about the pond first being dug and built. The fish really have grown tremendously since first introduced. The Orfe has always been a good size, he came from my mums pond when it got too much for her to keep. (My dad looked after the filters etc but he passed away a few years back) I could only manage to home some of her fish, the majority of them were massive. I did have a second Orfe that size but he unfortunately died last year. I was close to tears i can tell you  I remember those Orfe as babies in dads pond when i was a kid.
Looking at the size of some of those fish makes me want to extend the pond
Ok Steve, calm down lad......

Quick edit...Just found out that pumpkinseeds have to be kept under licence here in the UK. Its free to apply but theres no guarantee ill be issued with the paperwork. I suppose that means the fish would be destroyed????? I couldnt handle that.

You only have two of them right?

I would talk to a local fish/pondstore and see what chance you have of getting a license.

I thought that might be the case. I remember reading someplace that despite their (sunfish) popularity in the aquarium trade over there they aren't allowed to be shipped in or kept due to possable introductions. IIRC the same is true for bullheads and other NA natives. It makes sense but from an aquarists point of view it's a shame.
