I caught this fish in a mud puddle made by a truck tire believe it or not. It was in freshwater, near a freshwater inlet that led into a brackish sound into the ocean. It was near Corova in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.

It was small, as you can see, had blue or green specks near the middle of the body. It also had bars going vertically near the tail section.

The mouth of the fish was the most interesting part. Its lower jaw hung out further than the upper, like a Flathead Cat.

It also had very large eyes, quite larger than normal for a fish this size. Thanks for any help with id.

Thanks, so are they for sure Mummichogs?

Also, do you know if these are Eastern Mudminnows or what species? I caught them in brackish water in the Outer Banks.

Thanks again.

Yes, the first pics are male mummichogs.  The new set of photos are female mummichogs.
