I don't know if they're legal here either -- I'm in Milwaukee. But I have two in my pond.

I caught mine on good old-fashioned hook and sinker with nightcrawlers, in Lake Geneva WI.

They're both doing great.

Rock bass are gamefish in WI. Gamefish are legal as long as you caught them legally. Hook and line sounds plenty legal to me.

Wait, non-gamefish are legal too, right? Like if I catch a bowfin or something?

I posted this excellent link a while back.

The way I interpret it is:
gamefish my only be kept if caught on hook and line
non gamefish: may be netted, ect, or caught on hook and line

BUT, there are fish that are considered gamefish that have no open season. thus, pickeral are gamefish and are not legally catchable/keepable.

Rock bass are very easy to catch and bite almost anything so there is no real trick to it.
