I'm trying to decide on the size tank to put redfin pikerel in. What is the biggest aquarium specimen of the redfin pike you have seen?

The biggest I have seen was a 14 incher that I caught in Dismal Swamp. To be honest, that was an exceptional and rare specimen for me.

Most red-fins that I have seen and caught were in the 5-10 inch range (with a 10 inch fish being infrequent).

I think a 30 gallon is plenty big for one grass or red-fin pickerel. There will be folks here who disagree, and most will concede that a 60 gallon is the minimum size.

Certainly a 60 gallon will house even the largest of red-finned pikes.

M.

30g long maybe, personally I would suggest a 55g. I used to have a picture saved on the computer of a state record redfin. I don't recall the state and I cannot find the picture. If I do, I'll post it.

A 55 was what I was planning on.
