Sunfish do not react well to any dyes in their water so I would avoid anything that can discolor the water (Not sure on spelling but Menthelyne blue, malacite green etc). Good luck!

That's methylene blue and malachite green.
OK - no formalin, no malachite green...
Oh well, I guess they're just gonna die.

I don't want to stop treatment, since that would cause resistance etc. Do you think they will be ok with some green in there?

Be aware that velvet can pop back up after it is apparently cured - the organism can live in fish's intestines. So you may need to retreat in the near future.
