Wow!

Thanks for becoming a member. I just received my AC today and haven't had a chance to crack it open. I can see by the topics, this is THE issue I've been waiting for. All are great but this one could be special to me. I suspect you might get a back issue. Give it a little time and if you don't get one, be sure and PM me.

Thanks for supporting NANFA and let us know if you need anything.

Is the new AC out?

"635-011-0100
General Rule
It is unlawful to take any fish, shellfish, or marine invertebrates for personal use except as provided in these rules which include and incorporate the 2007 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations by reference." (emphasis added)
I found this on oregon's game department website at http://www.dfw.state.or.us/OARs/11.pdf
I'm not sure since I live in WA not OR but I think that by 2007 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations they mean one of those free "pamphlets" that you can get at any sporting goods stores for free. Do they have that in Oregon too?

I have spent half the day on the phone with odfw, no anwers yet... half a dozen voice mails and only one call back, but I think that may help narrow down the search. I did find out that getting a breeders license is only 27$ a small price to pay if it covers what I want to do... I would like to thank everyone that has helped me, answered my questions, and/or offered advice! I can't tell you all how much I appreciate it!

The west coast is tough - Washington and California pretty much forbid you collect natives. Hopefully Oregon is more enlightened.

Yep, so far I am finding that out... right now I am using a couple of loopholes but that doesn't feel right... what I can tell you, I am located right next to the state capital, and if I have to I will start writing every person in the state congress... worst case scenario, buy a yearly permit... state gets money and we get the true benefit...

Oh well I will keep calling and talking to whoever will listen until I get a definative answer and then go from there....
Though I would like to know if any states out there have a set of laws regarding taking fish for a personal aquarium that I can use as a template.....

I just got off the phone with the head of native fresh water species at ODWF. It is ILLEGAL to collect any wild spicies and transport them LIVE from the legally collect location (i.e. line and hook) without having an educational permit...
They are worried about non native and predatory species crossing watersheds...
Most of the native species in Oregon can be purchased at a breeder and they inspect and assess every applicant. the permits are free based on approval... I spent a couple of hours on the phone with Ryan and he wants to encourage conservation and love of the wild, but you know us out here in the Pacific.. bunch of tree hugger ;) won't risk the managment plan....

I am going to follow up on this I am scheduled for a meeting with him next tuesday to discuss the possiblility of permits and managment plans... again I already asked if anyone out there has a state with a working management plan... please point me there..... I NEED it... I am not a politician!
I want to bring the joy of natives legally to my area.... PLEASE HELP ME!

How does my state prohibit me from collecting natives? Yes, I can't use a seine but there's always rod and reel and tiny hooks. If there is a law prohibiting collecting natives in my state please tell me about it.

I've kept them with bluegill, redbreast, and warmouth.

My black bullhead is in with my pike cichlid and a green sunfish. If you have those three, you can't really get any other fish I've learned.

Now I can't say about washington, but what I am finding out in oregon is that it is illegal to transport live fish regardless of how they are caught without a live transport permit. you leave the water way they are supposed to be dead.... :(
