I was thinking about getting a darter or two and I was wondering what types are better suited for a tank with low water movement? The tank stays between 60 and 74 deg. I saw that swamp darters are a possibility but I was hoping for a more colorful type.

machineman,

I can recommend Iowa Darters (Etheostoma exile) as a colorful slow-water species. The pictures on my website of the Iowas are not the best, but you can Google some pictures that show their colors well. As far as their slow-water preference is concerned, throughout much of their native range they are found in lakes, often associated with dense vegetation. Also, their native range includes only northern U.S. states and Canada. That makes them well-suited to the temperature range you want to keep them in. They're really a neat fish!

machineman,

Forgot to add that I should have some Iowa Darters in-stock come spring. I think I'll be pricing them at about $7.00 each.
