UGA already HAD a School of Ecology - Dr. Odum was Professor emeritus thereof. WTF?

UGA had an Institute of Ecology (a department). Now it is a separate school (like the Schools of Journalism, Arts and Sciences, etc.). FYI, Dr. Odum passed away in 2002. Dr. Odum was instrumental in starting SREL, which opened in 1951.

Does anyone have any opinions about Virginia Tech? I am a undergrad junior in biology and am also a bit confused as to what I should be doing to prepare for grad school and what my next steps will be. I have been looking into Virginia Tech, since it appears to be pretty decent for this discipline, it is a beautiful area, its proximity to home (3 hrs) and a significant other looking at possibly becoming a large animal vet or attending their soon-to-open med school. Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, VT is a good school for biology in general, aquatic biology in particular. Bruce Turner in the Biology Dept. has done lots of crucial work with killifish genetics, and others in the Wildlife Dept. do interesting fieldwork.

I have a friend in the aquatic bio lab at Texas State that did her undergrad work at VT. She knows her stuff. Now shes working on inverts, but she also got some good experience with fish out there. I hear good things...
