How do you tell the common mosquito fish from the other ones? I want to make sure the ones at my Petco in with the fatheads and rosy reds are the common mosquito fish, because I was thinking of breeding them as feeders and don't want to hybridize them.

Western are pretty more common in feeder shipments than eastern or other species. I can be wrong, but other gambusia species are not found in the feeder shipment because:
They are brackish water.
They are uncommon.
They are endangered species.
They have limited home range.
Eastern and western are most common gambusia of all species. I like eastern gambusia because the males are colorful when they're melanstic.
