Here is a six inch walleye I caught and released. I have nowhere to keep a fish that could easily attain 24", but I thought I would post a photo taken from my cellular phone. I can catch walleyes this size on a regular basis and would be more than willing to give them to some local people with large tanks.

I'm not sure, but looking at the Iowa fishing regulations I believe the minimum size walleye your allowed to keep there is 15 inches. It looks like the min size requirements depend on what body of water these are taken from.

You might want to double check regulations for game fish in your state.

I do want to add however that the walleye you caught is a very beautiful little fish!

This walleye was caught on hook and line in an interior stream, where there is no size limit but a daily bag limit of 5 walleyes. Some lakes here in Iowa do have minimum length or slot limits for walleyes, but I can assure you that this walleye was caught in an unregulated size limit river.
On the subject of the photo, I can't believe how good it came out using my cheapo Samsung camera phone!

Well in that case I stand corrected lol.

Yes I agree that is a very excellent photo for a phone. I know my LG enV takes some really great photos compared to other cell phones as well. Great pic and great fish!

I'd love one to put in a 125g or larger tank, but need to check VT's regulations. Probably not allowed right now because of VHS. Cool fish, though. I've kept perch, but walleyes are even neater.

Cheers, Jase

Bad idea about give the walleye to some people with large tanks because not lots of people has 200+ gallons tank and it would be expensive to keep walleye alive while it is in the tank. (live foods, temp, wastes, tank size, fish size......you got this idea). Perch are much cheaper than walleye. I dont like to see big gamefish in the "average" home aquarium because the people thought the juvies are cute/cool looking so they take it home and put them in their own tank then they cannot afford to take care of the outgrown gamefish in long run. But its only IMO. sorry if I sound like hard-core.

Agreed, Butch. I'd only plan on keeping it in a 125g while it was still smallish, and move it to a 250 or larger as it grew. For folks not able/willing to have such large tanks, perch are a far, far better choice. I've had them before, and really enjoyed them. I probably won't end up asking for the walleye (as I said, I don't think state regs will allow it), but would consider it. I'm a live foods fanatic, so that part wouldn't be an issue... :)

Depends on the laws of the state you live in...usually crappie minnows or earthworms on hook.
