What about a brackish/saltwater section?
This is something that will be added in time. I think few of the Brackish/saltwater fish are not already covered here. Most people that keep lookdowns (for instance) don't even realize these are natives and will hit tropical forums for thier info.

The brackish section is actually a great idea. I did some coursework a few years ago that involved seining an estuary, and I couldn't believe the diversity of the fish we pulled up. I would definitely be interested in trying to keep a few of those species, especially a few of the killifish.

To this point I've kept mostly sunfish, bullheads and various minnows and darters.
Does anyone here have any experience with live plants?
By the way, this site looks like its going to be great!

Hello everyone, I am Dean. I was invited here by Skipjack as we had some recent business. He sent me a great pair of bowfin that are happily cohabiting with a largemouth bass.
To this point I've kept mostly sunfish, bullheads and various minnows and darters.

Welcome Dean,
We'll have a moderator just for plants in the native aquaria to answer your questions and or be a sounding board for your ideas.
In years past I kept many planted aquaria but before the boom. Much of my plant technique and infomation is outdated. Most os the plants I kept were sold as "tropical".
I look forward to native plant discussion in the future.

Just got my invite from dsmith73. I must say that this is the style forum that I have been waiting for! I have... let's see... 124 unread NANFA digests in my inbox. I just can't keep up!
As far as improvements to the forum, I can think of a few:
- a "new members" welcome section
- a linkie thingie that can direct you to threads/posts that you haven't read yet (if you are logged in), or to today's posts (if not logged in). I have seen this before on other sites, and it is a HUGE help when trying to see what is going on - you don't have to open every forum to see if anything's new!
- a link to a member's profile where their user name is given in the left (author) section.
- a place in member's profiles where information can be reserved for registered members. In fact, one idea would be to make the profiles/member lists viewable only by logged-in members.
Anyway, for those who don't know me, my interests are native plants (terrestrial and aquatic), native fish, fly fishing (my new, very addictive hobby), hiking. Just about anything dealing with the natural environment.
Hope to see a lot of activity on this forum!!!

This "Genesis" forum will probably turn into a welcome section after a week or so
"View posts since last visit" can be found on the upper right on the main page
There is an icon below each post that should be labeled "Profile".
I can take a look at the profile issue. Most of the information is not required so I figured if users don't want to share, they don't have to.
This forum software isn't used as much on the web so there are a few quirks people may not be used to. Just let me know what you guys want and I will look at implementing it.
Glad to have you on board. We have a forum dedicated to native plants that needs some content so have fun with it.
