Sorry for the poor picture quality. After five years the first golden heterandria formosa showed up among some fish collected in Fellsmere, Florida. They eventually died out but later on reappeared. I was thinking about making a pure line of them. Are they being kept as a pure golden strain in the US? Note that some of the fish are only halfway golden.

Hi Martin,
Nice formosa you have..
Have you developed a strain of the gold variety ??
I live in U.S. South Florida ,there are many wild type livebearers
that can be collected down here.. Gambusia , Formosa, Pike livebearer, Sail fin molly
and few othe tropicals..
Any way , I have collected Gold formosa before. Two different gold varieties..
One variety like yours = Clean transparent gold and other gold variety with freckles or spotting ..
I have developed a hardy strain of the gold freckled .. Have also caught formosa in brackish
water .. Have caught different body color types and pattern variations..
Will try post few pics later on..

In your photo, that smaller split pattern fish to the left and looking down.
Dang that looks 1 half gambusia, 1 half Least Killie.
Ive never seen anything like that.
What is the story?
All Least Killies i encounter are black spec flecked, like the tail half of your fish.

Hej Casper
Both fish are heterandria formosa. All the next generation seems to be wild type forms. The story is that the breeder who got these golden forms also gets golden forms of Epiplatys, and that the golden forms seems to disappear when they are moved and breed elsewhere. That is they dont produce any golden animals in the next generation,
