Hello,

I have a question for the forum, I am able next week to obtain Cyprinella chrosomus, and i like to know their maximum and minimum watertemperatures, can anyone tell me, I got already Cyprinella lutrensis, do they like the same temperatures?, must I give both species flow in the water?.

Thanks, Casper from the Netherlands

For Notropis chrosomus, the rainbow shiner, give them water flow and relatively cool water. Except in the heart of winter they don't need a heater, room temperature is plenty warm. If you have the relatively blue variety versus the relatively red variety, it's the more northern population that is native to streams flowing out of the southern highlands in northeast Alabama and northern Georgia; the red variety comes from central and south-central Alabama from lower grade, lower altitude streams. The red shiner, Cyprinella lutrensis, is more tolerant of warmer water and also does best with water flow.
