I have what I think is a 7" long Channel Cat in with my biggest Bluegills.

I put a 2" diameter 6" long pvc tube in the tank last year and the Catfish always stayed there during the day and came out at night. If I dropped a piece of shrimp in front of the tube it always came to it and ate it.

I recently put a larger 2 1/2" diameter tube in there because the fish looked cramped in the old one. It stayed inside for a while but now it won't go in. The inside of the new tube is clean and smooth.

Now the Cat just sits in the corner of the tank. The Bluegills don't bother it at all. Is this behavior normal?

I'd put the old pipe in next to the new one and let the fish pick which one it likes. Maybe it liked feeling cramped inside the old one, nice and cozy. The new one maybe isn't "right" somehow.

No, this is classic moribund behavior. The Catfish is fixing to die.

Irate, did you just make a prediction? Oh no, that poor catfish is a goner now.
