Here's an updated video. I was really just testing my new camera out, but it will do.

Cool footage. What kind of camera did you use?

It is a Fujifilm XP200. I had an older version of the XP, the XP10. It was a cheaper one and I really really liked it. All my underwater videos on my YouTube page are from that older camera. I liked it so much that I got a new one for Christmas. I'm looking forward to using it this year. I really like it. I also love that it has an app that I can wirelessly transfer photos to my phone/tablet.

I'm thinking of changing over to LED's in my aquarium. It doesn't have to be reef bright, but I want that shimmer effect. Anyone have any experience with them?

I'm thinking of 1 48in Stunner 8000k white strip & and a 12in Blue/Magenta strip to maybe bring out the reds/blues in natives. The great thing about the stunner strips is you can add/remove easily to get the light you need.

any thoughts?

You kinda already know what I am going to say, but I will say it anyway... think about DIY... I am loving mine on my 55 and I am loving the new one I made for my atypical 58 that has my war-buddy in it now. See thread link below. Also, I have one of those Marineland things on my 75 that costs about $120. Looks like the setup you are looking at is going to be expensive (they want $150 for one 48 light and the power supply... not even including the extra 12" thing you mentioned that I dont actually see on that site).

P.S. Good news is this is all relatively low voltage so no one will get shocked!

I don't know how much it would cost to switch over completely to leds but have you thought about just adding a single led light? I had leds on my 120 (48x24x24) when I had it up and running. The problem was though that I had to have two lights, side by side. That can get expensive. You could just add a single led light to your current lighting setup and see if you like that. But, if you've got the funds, go for it. Finnex has some good lights for bringing out the color in your fish.

I originally thought about DIY, but I have a lot going on and not sure I have the time to go through this. Plus, I like the thought of the easy to add/remove plug & play strips on the Ecoxotic stunners. You can easily add strips to change the color effect. Also, adding a controller is simple I'm not sure what to do right now. I was going to do the Stunners, but now I'm thinking about the Current USA Satellite Freshwater+. I really only need the daylight, but the adjust-ability of extra feature are intriguing. Some of the special affect on YouTube vids are cool, but I'm not sure I'd ever use them...at least not consistently.

Poor Josh, new to backpack shockers, and BAM! I hope we can let him live this down soon. You all know he would never hurt a fly.

Thanks, if you took the time to look over all 8 pages of this build, you'll probably realize that it was a long and exhaustive process. It's also an ongoing process.

Recently, I replaced 2 of my filters with a Fluval FX6. The 2 I replaced are now in my 75gal.

Also, I have an 48in LED that just got delivered today. I hope to install and update this weekend, photos to follow.

Josh--please allow me to share some 'learned the hard way' experience with you about the FX6.

For starters, I am a fan of canister filters. Some aren't. Fluvals over Eheims at that.

As technology advances, it is incorporated into what used to be very simple machines. In reference to the FX6, it can sense when water levels drop significantly when doing a large (~50% or more) water change. When it detects strain on the pump, it can shut it off so that it doesn't burn the motor out.

I was doing a large water change on my 150 this weekend, and had the level dropped about 60%. The FX6 started pulsing, or turning off and on quickly as it was working overtime during the low water event. During this pulsing, a lot of sludge in the filter became dislodged and quickly pumped into the tank. Needless to say it was very messy and caused some deterioration of water quality. Granted, all this can/could have been avoided by simply turning off the filter during the water change.

So I just wanted to point out that this cyborg filter works well, sometimes too well and can inadvertently do as I described above. Overall I am happy with the unit.

Thanks for the heads up. I always shut all my filters off when I do a water change due to the various height locations of my intakes. Any other tips?

Littlen, what is your thoughts on a spray bar for this filter? I bought 1in black pipe and the appropriate fittings to make it work, but I don't want to reduce the flow. I feel like you'd have to have many large holes so it wouldn't have back pressure.

Just added a 48in Stunner LED strip....wow. The light is amazing. It's way brighter, whiter, and cleaner than the two florescent bulbs. I took the old one out as it wasn't needed. Update photo/video coming.

I would not use a spray bar. Unless you drill enough large holes to reduce the spray to a trickle, you will reduce flow. If you are wanting a spray bar for aeration, you would do just as well running your out flow over a wide thin plate. Try to imagine something like a waterfall as wide as the side of your aquarium, and several inches long. You can glue in a piece of glass and dump your out flow onto that. This will spread the water out to a very thin/shallow level, and expose it to a lot of air as it flows back into the tank. Cost you a tube of silicone, and $10 bucks for the piece of glass cut to fit at a hardware store. Lower your water level. tape it in place. Glue it, nice and level. Foil tape for duct work is excellent for holding something like this in place.

Just my opinion. The more water that touches air the more gas exchange. A 5 inch by 18 inch piece of glass will expose 90 square inches of flowing water to the air. You cant duplicate that with a spray bar.

Josh, if you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for that Stunner? I found it on line for about $70 but then also you need a power supply that's another $35? And is that supplying all the light for the tank?

That's about what I paid. I got them from foster smith. I had a $50 gift certificate that helped me with the cost. It is now the only daytime light source. Way brighter than the florescent lights I had.
