Yeah, slow down. You should keep the bass and creek chubs at the same size, beacause they are similarly aggresive. If you plan on keeping them Together. The bass probably wont ever get to eating table-size lepomis ever, even in most ponds. That's what we call a "linker" :) Also, you are by no means limited to 2-inch largemouths. I 100% guarantee there is a pond that has largemouth bass within easy access with a #16 hook on 2lb test tied to a stick, or handlined. See Microfishing. Now, I haven't checked Cali regs, but you should be able to keep fingerling largemouth in your area. Good luck and merry fishmas.

I was going to buy it in February.. I guess i will try to get a smallmouth. Hopefully it will work. I'm not rushing, I'm just asking. experimenting is the option to figure this out i guess... I hope it will work. My temp might be too high though at 70-82

my only problem with having a smb is my tank gets to 82 for a hour-2 in the summer for a week. I will have a lot of air stones though. Ive heard they are temperature tolerant like creek chubs.

I wouldn't put any fish other than a subtropical in an 82... definately not a smallmouth. Stick with southern strain largemouth.

It might get that high, I do not want to get a largemouth that will quickly eat my other fish and outgrow my new tank fast. This year has been cooler and the temp only got to 82 when i had a heater for tropical fish for any year. Since i got natives, i removed the heater. I might get a bass soon. would the smb die at 82, or just survive? I do not want it to die or barely survive, but I might get the temp to lower and It just needs to endure that small time of heat which will be short.

Quickly outgrow and eat? Lol haha! That was a joke, right? Largemouth shalt not be kept with small fish. Sunnies will be fine.
