I do not know about the dace anymore since It is my 1st time without a heater and with a heater, my temp would get to 82 F. Would It survive that? Its only that high at 1:00pm-2 or 3:00pm. If i did get fathead minnows, do they school? I might get some soon and get about 5 or more if they school.

What is the question? If you are keeping natives you should never use a heater. Period.Ever.

I've had my tanks get that warm in the summer before and haven't lost anything from heat yet. I do try to make sure that I'm getting plenty of oxygen in the water at those temps.

A few years ago my roommate and I both had SRBD in our aquaria - his on the 1st floor and mine in the basement. A week with highs in the 90's killed his off. The basement topped off at about 80, and mine didn't have any issues. It wasn't an experiment or anything - we had different filtration, different foods, different chemicals, etc. Nonetheless, it's probably useful as anecdotal evidence.

They would be in a planted aquarium at room temp

Is your home air conditioned? Then don't worry about it.

Juvenile and non-breeding fathead minnows will school (loosely) but breeding males are territorial, not schooling.
