I doubt i could take off friday night, only 5 people are allowed off at once and the time before the holidays gets booked fast. As for a big truck I can borrow, I doubt that would happen (I can't drive standard and do not want to pile in the back of a pick up).

I did however take the week of the 14th off.

Well we could leave on saturday then. Its only 1 night we r gone. A truck isn't a standard or a pickup lol. I was thinking an SUV. This is the only week I can go. I am savin all my vacation for december when my daughter is born

alright so josh from NH is going...mike from NY is going and bumpy from mass is going. only problem we seem to have is a vehicle that cant withstand all of us. we need someone willing to drive. and we all split gas i hope it doesnt come down to we cant go cuz a car so who else wants to go?

I don't know the SW part of Virginia very well, but if you let me know what you're looking for I may be able to help out. Up here around Fredericksburg and the surrounding areas though...I can definitely help you out if you'd like to hit the area on your way home.

awesome man. i know we all def want mountain red belly dace. every darter possible...saffron, crecent shiners....im sure others want other things as well. what can you regularly get?

Saffron shiners are usually found at fairly high elevation, in first or second order streams. For pointers for locations you should look at the Fishes of Virginia or Tennessee books. This habitat preference is described at NatureServe as "Cool, clear, small, high-gradient headwaters and creeks with gravel-rubble bottom; restricted to upland and montane situations probably more than any other Notropis." But once you get to the right habitat they're often common.

If you are after Saffrons, be careful that you aren't getting into any trout water trying to find them. We thought about popping over west to grab some during the Roanoke/Dan trip, but finding them in fishable water was a concern.

yeah mike (keepnatives) has been down there so he said he knows the rivers that we need to hit up...dont wanna stumble upon dumb trout...im sick of the government trying to protect trout. PROTECT MY DARTERS!!! are you gonna be able to come to southwestern virginia at all? i said in the other thread that i am mostly lookin for every species of darter im able to collect...and warpaint, MRBD, and maybe some saffron or crescent shiners.

im sure if you are on our route we could swing some fish by you....maybe for payment you can let us crash at your house hahah. what fish are you lookin for....can you tell me what fish are going to be very common where we are headed?



also i looked up on priceline what an SUV would run us...came out to be like 240 bucks...but thats cuz i had to keep it for an extra day (fri) and to monday. but if we were to get the SUV in New York it would save us 1 day and possible be able to deliver it back on sunday...which would be 2 days instea on 4 days...so thats something to look at out your way mike.

if people would be so kind to post some rivers and what we could find there. that would help out a lot. we are all researching but obv its nice to have direct knowledge so we arent looking for hours and wasting our only day that we have. we would all be very appreciative of that.

I live in Essex (Baltimore County) Maryland. Not too many darters around here except tessilated. Looking for more colorful species. I have zero experience and would love to go with some experienced members. I would need a few weeks notice to get out of work and can not go towards the final days of the month. Would also need to be schooled on fishing licenses out of state etc. if we left the maryland area. Total newb but super excited and motivated. Like I said just need notice, a list of what to bring, and patience from whoever I am with on the trip.
