I love this picture my wife took of a male that had been outside for the summer and colored up amazingly well. There's just something about natural light and food that makes natives show their full potential.

That's an awesome pic! It's amazing how the colors can look photoshopped. I've take bluefin pics that look the same way even though I hadn't done anything other than simply take the pic. Now I've got to get a pic of the yellow-finned morph.

Did I read that right? Yellow-finned morph? Pics would be greatly appreciated.

That is a great photo! Hopefully if mine spend a couple months outside they will look like that.

there realy wasn't much editing done to that picture, it was a little dark so i brightened it up but thats it, this fish realy did have that bright of blue when the light hit him right. This picture was taken a day after he was brought indoors from a summer of making little bluefins and he was the brightest of several males I had at the time.

We get all three morphs here. The coloration that I'm refering to is mostly only on the anal fin although occasionally it can be seen on the dorsal. Blue is by far the most common with red being second and finally yellow in third. Out of a hundred males (no, I didn't count, this is more of an estimation) we probably see one or two yellows and ten to fifteen reds. Have caught all three in one dip before though so in my experience, the colors aren't location specific.

Thanks for the link. A friendly tip: include "http://" before that web address so we can click on it directly, instead of having to paste it directly into our browsers. Like this:

I got a small spotted sunfish from the psp in north canton, they had it in with a couple puffers. It's the first spotted sunfish I have found that way and was a nice surprise since I only have 1 of that species.

I'm glad to hear you got it I've been looking at it for two weeks. I stopped today and it was gone. Good to know it was not used as a feeder or something.

I seen it but decided not to get anymore till I get a pond up in the back yard. Maybe the end of this month the weather will permit a small container pond.

If you live in Western NC the Asheville Aquarium on Patton Avenue in Asheville has several bluefins in their ghost shrimp tank.

I got some there for 50 cents each.

Just a heads up.

Are these the elusive bluefin killies?:

I found these two with my feeders today. They are about 3/8 inch long. I don't have a tank for anything that tiny. I put them in a tank with mostly larger topminnows. Hopefully they will do well, and not get eaten.

No, those are least killies a very nice native livebearer. You can keep them in a small well planted tank or container and they will multiply quickly.
